Dads Rock supports a diverse number of communities and families, as such we value board members who can represent the perspectives of these groups.
Our Board meets quarterly (usually online) to contribute to the ongoing development and execution of the Dads Rock Strategy. You will play a critical role in leading the charity, driving our fundraising strategies and bring a solid networking background that can help our aims.
Specifically we are looking for a Chair and a Treasurer at this time.

Chair
We are looking for a Chair that can operate at senior levels on strategic and commercial agendas.
Additional Roles Responsibilities of the Chair
The Chair has a substantial role in terms of shaping direction, coordinating contributions, advocacy, and influencing a wide range of external agencies in a challenging funding environment.
To provide leadership - The overarching role of the chairperson is to provide inclusive leadership, they must be an effective strategist and good networker.
To ensure Dads Rock is managed effectively - The Chairperson must co-ordinate the board to ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place for the effective management of the organisation.
To ensure the board functions properly - The Chairperson is responsible for making sure that each meeting is planned effectively, conducted according to the constitution and that matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner.
The Chairperson must make the most of all their trustees and ‘lead the team'. This also involves regularly reviewing the board's performance and identifying and managing the process for renewal of the board through recruitment of new members.
To provide support and supervision to the senior staff - The Chairperson will be the direct line manager for the senior staff, and provide regular supervision. They may request Trustees for support in staffing matters including recruitment, promotion, or disciplinary matters.
To represent the organisation as its figurehead - The Chairperson may from time to time be called upon to represent the organisation and sometimes be its spokesperson at, for example, functions or meetings.
Attributes
All Trustees are expected to have sufficient relevant experience and be able to contribute to strategic development and decision-making. The key attributes of the Chair therefore are not restricted to any particular professional discipline, but include:
effective and inclusive leadership skills;
strategic perspective and understanding of the environment in which we work;
capacity to engage with and influence a wide range of people; and
Commitment to the overall aims and objects of Dads Rock.
Previous experience in a senior leadership role and/or on a Board of Trustees or equivalent would be advantageous.
Treasurer
We are looking for a treasurer to join our amazing board of Trustees. Our current treasurer is stepping out of the role after 3 years but remains on the board and can provide support.
Additional Roles Responsibilities of the Treasurer
These are the specific responsibilities of the Dads Rock Treasurer and in addition to the role, responsibilities and duties of a Trustee.
To maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs
To ensure its financial viability
To ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained
Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements
Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs
Ensuring that the organisation has an appropriate reserves policy
The preparation and presentation of financial reports to the Board
Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place
Liaising with any paid staff and volunteers about financial matters
Manage bank accounts
Check and approve invoices and expenses payments monthly
Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans
Ensuring the organisation’s compliance with legislation
Ensuring equipment & assets are adequately maintained and insured
Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies i.e. The Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies
Where external scrutiny of accounts is required, ensuring that the accounts are scrutinised in the manner required (independent examination or audit) and any recommendations are implemented
Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
Delivering a formal presentation of the accounts at the annual general meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way
Previous experience in a senior leadership role and/or on a Board of Trustees or equivalent would be advantageous.
About the Role of a Trustee
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Board of one of Scotland’s most dynamic and fastest growing Charities.
As a Trustee Board Member, your responsibilities will include:
Setting and maintaining the strategic direction of the organisation
Sharing responsibility for Board decisions
Maintaining an overview of the organisation’s financial performance
Ensuring appropriate leadership and governance is in place
Attending and meaningfully contributing to Quarterly Board Meetings
Ad-hoc attendance and engagement in sub-committees and short-life working groups, as required.
OSCR - Guidance and good practice for Charity Trustees
Remuneration/Expenses
This is an unpaid role, however reasonable expenses associated with the role can be reimbursed (e.g. travel to and from Board meetings, where applicable).
Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend, engage and contribute meaningfully to all board meetings, which are held 4 times per year during the early evening for approximately two hours in Edinburgh (or digitally), as well as our Annual General Meeting.
Trustees wil also be asked to contribute their expertise by participating in sub-committees, short-life working groups, events and networking activities, and acting as subject matter experts on particular projects as appropriate.
The approximate trustee time commitment is 2-3 hours per month.
Main Duties
To contribute actively to the role of Trustee by:
Offering support and challenge to board colleagues and staff, adhering to collective responsibility once decisions are made
Setting and reviewing operational policy and practice
Defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
Safeguarding the good name and values of Dads Rock
Protecting and managing the tangible assets of the organisation and ensuring the proper investment of all funds
Promoting and representing Dads Rock in an external ambassadorial capacity, as required.
In addition to the above duties and responsibilities, each Trustee should apply their specific subject matter expertise, knowledge and experience to help the Board reach sound decisions.
This will involve reviewing and scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues and providing advice and guidance relevant to the areas in which the Trustee has specialist expertise.

Essential Attributes
An interest in the ethos and aims of Dads Rock
An enthusiasm to meaningfully contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of a fast-growing national charity
An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship
Commitment to preparing for, attending and meaningfully engaging in board meetings, other meetings and events
Ability to maintain confidentiality of personal and sensitive information
The ability to work as part of the team of Trustees in order to reach sound and fair decisions
Ability to understand and analyse complex information, often presented in report form
Ability to lead discussions and contribute meaningfully and effectively to the development and execution of Dads Rock’s strategic planning
To be able to represent at least one key skill/knowledge area on the Board
You must not be disqualified from being a Trustee for any reason.
Board Tenure
Trustees must commit to serving on the Board for a minimum of one three-year term.
Trustee Induction
Your induction will include meetings with the Chair and the Dads Rock leadership team and - if desired - to be peer supported by an existing Trustee.
